Recipe: Ask for Donations

In 2024, organisations using Spektrix processed an average of 78% of their donations (under $500/£500) online. Many donations are collected during the purchase path online, where customers can add a donation to their order before checking out. 

With this recipe, you’ll be able to make donation asks to customers that are targeted, personal and effective.

Prep 🥄

  • Review the funds that are publicly visible on your website. Do you have a mix of unrestricted and restricted funds? 
  • Assess the events that you haveon sale. Are they a mix of genre, venue or type? 
  • Decide which funds you’d like to target to which events. For example, you might wish to target customers purchasing tickets for your children’s shows with an ask towards your Education fund.
    Remember: it’s recommended that you always have an ask going towards at least one fund for every event. 
  • Decide whether certain customers should be targeted by a specific fund. For example, you might wish to target members or exclude members from an ask. 
  • Run the Donation Conversion Analysis report over a date range, and assess the average and most frequent amounts that customers donate. Use this amount to suggest a default donation amount based on their basket / cart value. 

 

Cook 🍳

  1. Select an existing, or create a new, fund that is available on the website.
  2. In Event Criteria, select Force on way to checkout “Always”, “Never” or “For specific events”.
  3. For specific events, choose the event criteria that will prompt this fund to appear. 
  4. In Customer Criteria, either choose “always” for the fund to be prompted for all customers, or “For specific customers”.
  5. If prompting the fund for specific customers, select the customer criteria.
  6. In Default Amount, input the default donation amount in relation to the value of the customer’s basket.
  7. Head to your website and test your work!
