PIN Pads (also known as Chip & PIN machines or PEDs/peds) enable you to take in-person card payments.  In this article we'll explain how PIN Pads work with Spektrix and how to order them for your organisation. You'll also find links to Support Centre articles to help you set up and troubleshoot your PIN Pads.

This article is for users in the UK and Ireland who use Opayo.

Users in other regions who use different payment solutions should read the following articles:

How PIN Pads work with Spektrix

PIN Pads supplied for use with Opayo connect to Spektrix through the Spektrix Box Office App. The Box Office App enables Spektrix to communicate with hardware such as Chip and PIN machines and Ticket Printers.

You’ll need to install the Box Office App on every PC which connects to a PIN Pad.

Spektrix currently integrates with the Verifone P400 PIN Pad using Opayo as the Payment Service Provider (PSP). These differ from some PIN Pads you might use elsewhere in your organisation.

Integrated payments are processed directly through Spektrix and sent to your MyOpayo portal. These payments are then transferred to your business bank account.

How to order a PIN Pad

Spektrix uses the Verifone P400 PIN Pad, provided by Opayo.

WARNING: As of 31st May 2025, the Verifone VX820 PIN Pad is no longer supported. You can either replace with the Verifone P400 or move to Spektrix Payments.

For more information on the Verifone P400, including how to order these PIN Pads, read Ordering a PIN Pad (UK and Ireland).

How to set up a PIN Pad

PIN Pads need to be set up and configured before you can take in-person card payments. This involves downloading and installing software on each PC the PIN Pad is connected to.
