Recommending Events are a way to upsell, promote and suggest other Events while a customer is checking out.
This article explains how to set up Recommended Events.
Before you read this article, make sure you’re familiar with:
What are Recommended Events?
When a customer purchases tickets for an Event, they’ll be suggested any Recommended Events during the checkout.
Recommended Events are Events that are linked together for the purpose of suggesting them to customers. You might want to use Recommended Events to link Events that are related, similar or connected. For example, an Event that is part of a multipart Events.
The recommendation is based on the initial Event that the customer chooses. For example, if a customer has tickets to The Color Purple in their Basket/Cart, before clicking the Checkout button, they’ll see a list of Recommended Events that have been linked to The Color Purple.
Recommended Events appear on the online purchase path and in the Sales Interface.
Recommended Events Online
When purchasing online, using iframes, Recommended Events can look like the following:
Clicking on the recommended Event link takes Customers to the Event page where they can continue to browse and add tickets to their Basket/Cart.
For online purchases, the link defaults to the Event page iframe. However, if you set the custom URL in the Event Details, the Recommended Events will link using those URLs.
TIP: Event images won't be displayed in the Basket/Cart if you're using iframes. To learn more about different Basket/Cart configuration options that can be achieved using the API, read What is the API?.
Recommended Events in the Sales Interface
In the Sales Interface, Recommended Events will appear under the Seating Plan when selecting Seats in an Event Instance:
Click on the Event to be taken to the Event page to browse through Event Instances and select Seats to add them to the Basket/Cart.
Considerations for Recommended Events
Before setting up your Recommended Events, you’ll need to decide which Events you’d like to suggest to which.
Events can be recommended to each other or only to one but not the other. Each Event can have one or multiple Recommended Events. Alternatively, Events can have no recommendations.
TIP: Recommendations can only work between Events. You can’t recommend individual Instances.

When setting up an Event, you’ll select Events that are recommended when the Event is in the Basket/Cart (called Cross-Selling To), and you’ll also select Events who recommend the Event when those Events are in the Basket/Cart (called Cross-Sold From).
How to set up Recommended Events
You can set up Recommended Events in the Admin Interface.
-
Go to Admin > Events and select
your Event.
-
Go to the Recommended Events tab:
- Click Edit in the bottom right of the screen.
-
From the Recommended Events screen, you’ll see two sections:
-
Cross-Selling To: These are the Events that’ll be
suggested when the Event you’re setting up is in the Basket/Cart.
- Cross Sold From: When any of these Events are in the Basket/Cart, the Event you’re setting up will appear in the Basket/Cart.
Each section will have a full listing of Live Events. Click and drag the Events you’d like to recommend to and from into the boxes.
TIP: If you can’t see your Event listed, its Instances may still be in Draft mode. Make sure that at least one Instance to the Event is Live. To purchase tickets, the Event must be visible and on sale in the appropriate sales channel.
TIP: When an Event is added to one section, their Recommended Events tab will update automatically. For example, if you are setting up a Comedy Night and add Trivia Night to Cross-Selling To, Comedy Night will be automatically added as Cross-Sold From on the Trivia Night page.
