Ticket Scanners are devices that enable you to scan tickets containing barcodes and QR codes.

This article offers an overview of how Ticket Scanners work with Spektrix and how to choose the best Ticket Scanners for your organisation.

Finally, you will find links to Support Centre articles to help you set up and begin using your Ticket Scanners.

How Ticket Scanners work with Spektrix

Ticket Scanners, unlike Ticket Printers and PIN Pads/Chip Readers, don’t need the Spektrix Box Office App in order to work with Spektrix.

When you scan a ticket, information from the barcode or QR code is sent from the scanner directly to Spektrix through the Scanning Interface on your device.

What you’ll need to scan tickets

  • A Ticket Scanner (you'll find options later in this article)
  • Access to the Scanning Interface (either through the Scanner itself or the mobile/cell phone it is attached to)
  • A stable Wi-Fi or 4G/5G connection
  • Barcodes or QR codes on your tickets

TIP: To use Ticket Scanners, you’ll need to make sure you include barcodes or QR codes in the design of your paper tickets and Print at Home tickets. Read The Ticket Design Tool for more information.

Once you’ve added a barcode or QR code to your ticket designs, check the following:

  • If you use Ticket Printers, print a ticket. Check the barcode or QR code scans successfully.
  • Open a Print at Home ticket from an email or attachment on your phone. Check the barcode or QR code scans successfully.

How to choose a Ticket Scanner

You can use a range of Ticket Scanners with Spektrix. You should consider the following when deciding upon which model is best for your organisation:

  • Whether you need a combined Ticket Scanner/Android device
  • Whether you want a Ticket Scanner to use with your existing Android or Apple device
  • Whether you want to use the scanner indoors with Wi-Fi or outdoors with a 4G/5G connection

REMINDER: It’s no longer possible to scan tickets using an iPod touch.
