A Price Band Overlay applies Price Bands to Seats in your Seating Plans. Price Bands assign pricing levels to your Seats, which together with selecting a Ticket Type, determine the Price at which a Ticket is sold.
A Price Band Overlay is required when setting up Event Instances.
Before you read this article, make sure you’re familiar with:
Why Create a Price Band Overlay?
A Price Band Overlay assigns Price Bands to each Seat in a Seating Plan. In Spektrix, a Ticket’s Price is determined by the Seat’s assigned Price Band and selected Ticket Type. Price Bands determine the initial price range, for example, Premium Seating vs. Standard Seating.
In Reserved Seating Plans, the Price Band Overlay provides a visual indication of each Seat’s pricing level. You can add as many Price Bands to a Seating Plan as required, but each Seat can only have one Price Band applied.
In Unreserved Seating Plans, only one Price Band can be applied across all Seats.
You can create different Price Band Overlays for different Instances and different Layouts. For example, a typical Price Band Overlay may price Seats closer to the stage at premium pricing and Seats further back at Standard Pricing. A Price Band Overlay for a piano recital may apply premium pricing closer to the side of the venue with a clear view of the pianist’s hands.
You’ll need to set up your Price Bands before creating a Price Band Overlay. For more information, read How to Set Up and Edit Price Bands.

Select a Layout Overlay from the dropdown above the Price Band Overlay list.
A Price Band Overlay can be created specifically together with a Layout Overlay. For example, if Seats have their own Price Band but are removed in a Layout, you don’t need to assign a Price Band to those Seats.
However, if you’re using a Price Band Overlay across multiple Instances with different Layout Overlays, we recommend selecting an Overlay with the widest selection of Seats (no or minimal masked Seats).
You’ll be able to switch between Layout Overlays after assigning Price Bands to the Seats to view how Price Bands are applied on different Layouts:
-
Every Seat in the Seating Plan will default to the first Price Band listed in your system. To change the Price Band for the Seat, follow the steps below. You can assign one Price Band at a time. If multiple consecutive Seats have the same Price Band, you can assign them at the same time.
-
Select a Seat or multiple consecutive Seats. If you need to apply the same Price Band to multiple Seats that are not near each other, apply the Price Band separately for each section. You can use one of the following methods to select multiple Seats at once:

Multiple straight rows: For Seats in multiple straight rows, choose the rectangle icon for Rectangle Mode:
Click and drag your cursor to create a rectangle around all the Seats to select.
-

While a Price Band Overlay can be created specifically together with a Layout Overlay, the Price Band Overlay can be applied to any Layout Overlay for an Unreserved Seating Plan Area as all Seats, regardless of how many are masked, will have the same Price Band.
You’ll be able to switch between Layout Overlays after assigning a Price Band:
