The Saveo Pocket 2D is a compact ticket scanner designed for scanning QR codes and barcodes. The Pocket 2D adds scanning functionality to a mobile device or Windows PC.

In this article we’ll cover the steps to set up the scanner and connect it to a mobile device using bluetooth, or a PC using a wireless or wired connection.

To set up the Pocket 2D, you’ll need to scan some barcodes from the Quick Setup Guide. We recommend scanning barcodes from the quick set up guide included with the scanner. If you need a copy, we recommend downloading and printing it from the Saveo Pocket 2D website.

TIP: The barcodes in this article are displayed as a reference to their placement in the Quick Setup Guide.

If you try to scan a barcode directly from this article when reading on a monitor or mobile device, the scanner may be unable to detect the barcode. This is due to the scanning light reflecting onto the screen.

Charging the Pocket 2D before use

Before you begin setup, we recommend fully charging the Saveo Pocket 2D.

To charge the Pocket 2D:

  1. Connect the USB-C end of the charging cable to the Pocket 2D
  2. Plug the USB-A end of the cable into your computer’s USB port or a USB charger

The colour of the LED will depend on whether the Pocket 2D is in use while charging:

  • Switched off: The red LED will turn on when it starts charging
  • Switched on/in use: The LED light will flash red and purple, and then remain red while charging

Once the Pocket 2D is charged, the LED turn off. You're now ready to connect the Pocket 2D to your device.

Which connection should I use?

The Pocket 2D scanner can be connected using three methods:

  • Bluetooth: Suitable for mobile devices. For example, a mobile phone/cellphone, tablet or iPad
  • 2.4GHz wireless: Suitable for a wireless connection to a PC
  • Wired Connection: Suitable for a wired connection to a PC

Connecting to a mobile device using bluetooth

The Pocket 2D captures the QR code/barcode information and sends this to the scanning interface on your mobile device’s web browser.

To connect the Pocket 2D to a mobile device using Bluetooth, make sure you have your Quick Setup Guide ready as you’ll need to scan barcodes from the guide.

For full instructions, click on the tab below depending on whether you’re using an Android or Apple device.
