Chip Readers (also known as Chip & PIN machines, PIN Pads or PEDs/peds) enable you to take in-person credit and debit card payments.

This article offers an overview of how Chip Readers work with Spektrix and how to order them for your organization.

Users in other regions who use different payment solutions should read the following articles:

Users in Canada who currently don’t use Chip Readers but would like to implement an in person payments solution should read Introduction to Spektrix Payments.

TIP: The Ingenico Lane 3000 will no longer be supported from April 30 2026 and organizations who need new chip readers will be required to purchase and install an Ingenico Lane 3600.

Organizations with an Ingenico Lane 3000 can still use the device until end of life and can follow the articles Setting Up the Ingenico Lane 3000 Chip Reader and Troubleshooting an Ingenico Lane 3000 Chip Reader (US Only).

How Chip Readers work with Spektrix

Chip Readers connect to Spektrix using different methods depending on whether you're using Spektrix Payments or Worldpay.

Spektrix Payments

Spektrix Payments is a cloud based solution which means no hardware installation is required. Spektrix Payment Terminals connect wirelessly to your Spektrix system without using the Box Office App.

Take a look at Introduction to Spektrix Payment Terminals for more information.

Worldpay

Users of Worldpay will use Chip Readers which connect to Spektrix through the Spektrix Box Office App. The Box Office App is a piece of software which allows Spektrix to communicate with hardware such as Chip Readers and Ticket Printers.

You’ll need to install the Box Office App on every PC to which you plan to connect a Chip Reader.

Spektrix only works with integrated Chip Readers. These differ from some Chip Readers/PIN Pads you may use elsewhere in your organization. Integrated payments are processed directly through Spektrix and forwarded via the Worldpay gateway to Worldpay.

You need to use a specific Chip Reader with Spektrix. Spektrix currently integrates with the Ingenico Lane 3600 Chip Reader, using Worldpay as the their card payment gateway for chip readers.

How to order a Chip Reader

Spektrix works with the Ingenico Lane 3600 Chip Reader, for payments by Chip and Tap to Pay.
