How do Contact Preferences link to Dotdigital?
Linking Contact Preferences to Dotdigital lets you keep an up to date record of email consent across both Spektrix and Dotdigital.
Customers can agree to linked Contact Preferences through sign up forms, when making purchases online or in the Box Office. Once a Customer consents, they’ll automatically be included in any Customer List Segments which include that Contact Preference.
If you have two or more Contact Preferences linked to Dotdigital, when a Customer registers through an online sign-up form, all linked email Contact Preferences will receive the yes response.
When a Customer clicks an Unsubscribe link in an Integrated Email campaign, they are immediately placed on the suppression list in Dotdigital and the Customer’s Contact Preference is updated in Spektrix during an overnight sync.
Customers can manage their own Contact Preferences by logging into their account. This includes resubscribing to Contact Preferences they have previously opted out of.
TIP: If your website uses a custom API sign-up form, you can work with your web developer to make different Contact Preference options visible to the customers on your website.
How to link Contact Preferences to Dotdigital
When setting up or editing Contact Preferences, check the box This preference is linked to dotdigital.
This should only be used for Email Contact Preferences:
REMINDER: All linked Contact Preferences will automatically be set to No if a Customer clicks an Unsubscribe link in a Dotdigital Email Campaign.
Manage Contact Preferences and Unsubscribes
If a Customer unsubscribes by clicking an Unsubscribe link sent in an Integrated Email campaign, they will be unsubscribed from all Contact Preferences linked to Dotdigital in Spektrix. This means that if you have multiple email Contact Preferences linked to Dotdigital simultaneously, Customers won’t have a choice of which emails they are opting out of and will automatically be opted out of all linked email Contact Preferences.
You can give Customers the option of managing their Contact Preferences by including a link to the My Account page alongside your Unsubscribe link in emails.
To do add a Manage Contact Preferences link to your email campaigns:
- Add a text block to your Dotdigital Email Campaign. You may want to position the Manage Contact Preferences link in the footer of your email, near or alongside your Unsubscribe link.
- In the text box, enter the text you’d like to display to customers. For example: “Click here to update your contact preferences” or “Manage your Contact Preferences”.
- Highlight the text and click the Link button in the tool bar:
- Complete the details about the link:
- Text: This is the text that will display in your email.
- Link (URL): Enter the URL of your website’s My Account page or iframe.
-
If you're using a Custom Domain, the first part of your iframe URL will be:
https://tickets.yourwebaddress.com/yourclientname/website/secure/MyAccount.aspx?Screen=preferences
- Replace tickets. with your subdomain
- Replace yourwebaddress.com with your website address
- Replace yourclientname with your client name
https://system.spektrix.com/yourclientname/website/secure/MyAccount.aspx?Screen=preferences
- Replace yourclientname with your client name.
TIP: To find your My Account iframe link, you can use the iFrame URL Generator on the Integrate Portal.
- Link title: Enter the hover over link text. Screen readers also use this text for accessibility purposes.
- Link groups: You can use link groups to organise links from different Campaigns together. This is useful for link click reporting and link click segmentation. You can learn more in the Dotdigital Help Center: Using link grouping to group campaign links together.
- Link name (for tracking): Enter a link name keyword, so you can track which links are selected when you view your reports.
-
Do not track this link: Check this box if you don't want to track clicks on this link.
- Click Insert to add this link to your email.
TIP: To save time, you can add this link to your email templates so that the Manage Contact Preferences link is always included.
Additionally, you may also want to add clarity to your Unsubscribe link.
For example, adding text before the Unsubscribe link which reads:
If you would like to unsubscribe from all email communications, please click here: Unsubscribe.
Resubscribes
Customers can choose to resubscribe to Contact Preferences they have previously opted out of.
This can be done in two ways:
- By managing their Contact Preferences in their online account
- A Sales User can update Contact Preferences on the Customer Record
If you have multiple synced preferences, Customers will only be resubscribed the preference/s they choose to be resubscribed to.
When a preference is changed from No to Yes, an email is sent to the Customer to confirm the resubscribe. You can edit the contents of this email by following the steps in Customise the Resubscribe Confirmation Email on the Dotdigital Help Center.
